D2 Suspension and tyre questions and other bits

    Greetings out to all

just wondering if someone could give me an idea on the D2 wheel size , what would be the max size to fit up with a 3 inch lift -and no cutting ?
I was hoping to run 255x85x16's in a BFG M/T or Coopers STT .

Secondly , i wanted to run a 3 inch lift on it ......would you recommend Kings springs ?? I have a brand new set of Koni shox whichi picked up today but the shop only stocked Lovells and they only go to 2 inch over standard

Also where would stock a roof rack / the split level type in aluminium ?

The axles on the 2000 TD5 would they be strong enough for an airlocker in the rear ? or should i go Maxi / Ashcroft axles ?

Sorry for so many questions ..... had a lady write my Patrol off so with the payout i signed up for a much anticipated D2 TD5 last week !!!
and needless to say i fairly know buggar all about the finer details of them lololol

sorry for the newby questions guys n gals

    Hi Sith,

    Info on Tyresizes here:

    http://www.aulro.com/modules.php?name=Foru...iewtopic&t=4297

3" Spring lift: King vs Lovells. I'll leave to others but you may need to have a lift over 2" engineered for road worthiness and insurance companies might have an issue.

I haven't seen a split level roof rack for years I think ARB used to make one for the S1 Disco but no longer I suspect.

Lovells do a 4" lift for the Disco 2 also.

    King springs are fine.

Here is the best tyre guide for the D2 that I have seen
    http://www.disco2.com/howto/offroader/tyresizes.phtml

With the rear locker, I would run Maxi axles. Some don't though I really think you are asking to break a factory axle with the locker. I broke one without a locker and they are not removable on the track in the Disco2 unlike many of the other Rovers.

With Brooksys 3" King Spring lift, he used 2" lift springs + 30mm spacers. This lift looks like it flexs really well also! King Rover front raised gave me 40mm lift at 190lb/in tested.

And just remember you are going to chew through the drive shafts very quickly with a 3" lift, just ask Slunnie who has his rebuilt once a year. 8O 8O

Not sure what it cost to rebuild (somewhere around $300 i would think) but the expensive part is when the prop shaft breaks and hits other stuff....like transmissions!

Then you are also goin to need extensions for your brake lines and abs lines.

Lastly you might want to convert the rubber donut on the rear driveshaft with a uni if you are going for a 3" lift. I am still not sure if it is lift or aggressive driving that destroys them, but anyone with a lift replaces them more often and most over 2" lifts have done the conversion.

On the Disco2 specifically, from the data we got on D2Au I reckon its the use of agressive tyres and driving that hammers the rubber donut in the rear shaft.

I think lift in the other Landys that run the A-frame rear suspension setup will destroy them also due to the flexing of the joint.

But do any other Landy's use the donut?

Do you still have your donut?

Yep, the D1 uses the donut also. I'm not sure about the Rangie. I think the RRC's may have still used uni-uni tailshafts.

I dont run the donuts now. After breaking 2 of them I spat the dummy and fitted a uni-uni tailshaft. These have been really solid and drama free. Unlike the bloody fronts.

my 92 disco has uni to uni.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>could you supply the details on changing to rear uni? [/b][/quote]

you need 1x S1 tail shaft.
diff pinion yoke and spacer that sits behind it.(between the yoke and the
    bearing)
and the 4 bolts to bolt it together with.
