Yeah they do but for once I gotta say "If it ain't broke, why fix it?"

At least in my case the transfer brake is still working fine.

In the event that it does cark it though the disc sounds like an interesting conversion.

The disc brake would seem to have little advantage over the drum except where you are regularly deep wading in mud, where its throwing the mud clear may well be an advantage. However, in the Australian situation where flying stones are more of a problem, I think stone damage to the disc is likely, and the skid protector will do little to prevent this. I know the outside of my handbrake drum is covered with stone bruises! Once roughened by stones the disc will cause rapid wear of the pads, or at least the front one. While for people who never go off the bitumen it will work just as well as the original, I wonder whether it is worth the cost of the brake plus engineering approval unless you are doing a lot of mud work.

its a park brake.....

only gets applied when stopped......(well...theoretically anyway)

the pads or shoes should never wear out as they are not rubbing on the disc/drum....
but rather simply clamping it to stop it from moving.....

On most disc brakes the pads rub lightly all the time as part of the self adjusting/floating caliper mechanism. If this is like that a roughened disc will still wear the pads. As well as being a park brake it is an emergency break, although with dual circuit brakes it should never need to be used as such.
