What model LR do you drive and what gearbox does it have so that we can determine the transfer case type?

    Hi Alex
Sometimes you may need to rock it in reverse to "align everything".If its an auto from memory the selection is slightly different, try the auto in "D" whilst selecting the lever.
Could be there is dirt/mud in the selector mechanism,to check/clean you need to disasemble the console,it tells you how to do the dismantling in the RAVE CD

Try shifting to low when rolling VERY slowly, say under 5kmh, I recently rebuilt my TC and found it jumping out of low just after the rebuild. I was going to adjust it, but have since found no problems with system.
If you recently purchased the vehicle perhaps yours hasn't been used much and is a bit sticky.

As Disco95 said try it when just rolling in neutral. As long as it goes from high to neutral it should go into low. Don't use too much force or you will break the linkage like I did.
If that doesn't work you might have to adjust it.
There is a nut on either side of the linkage onto the transfer case. You can get it from underneath (just) but it is a lot easier to get to from in the cabin. Remove the console and the shifter and you should see it.

    8) there have been issues with the diff lock lever lacking lubrication, especially on vehicles that do not/have not been of road for some time.
it is a difficult area to get to when lying under the car, but try hitting everything with a can of inox or such like. and the vehicle does need to be rolling - out of gear [lots of crunchy noises when you try with 'd' selected]

Have to agree if it an auto put it in neutral. Crunches when in park. If it won't go in try putting it back into high and try again works with mine.

8)you shouldn't have to get help, as you said it puts up the light and goes in, so if you move it half way to centre and force it forward and to the left or right it should go in, like the placard shows left is low locked and right is just low, a couple of u turns on bitumen will prove its engaged.
as i said earlier , most of these engaging problems are due to lack of use and the problem is lubrication/ corrosion putside the box, very rarely internal.
you hav'nt said if it was a street car or if you have owned it long,
but if you didn't break it before the selection difficulty then i still reckon it needs lubrication,
mine was difficult to engage when i first got it and was a heck of a thing to disengage, but after using it a bit and lube it is a breese.
    good luck.
