8) drowning it must have got you nervous too,
double posting eh!
Managed to drown my TD5 Disco today but things have dried out and it is running good again. Was going to go over it tomorrrow with a can of WD40 and generally clean it up a bit and am wondering if I can simply disconnect the ECU and then plug it back in again. Does the key have to be in any specific position at all or is it as simple as unplugging it, cleaning it (maybe bagging it to protect it further) and then plugging it back in again and away I go? Anything to watch out for?

Mick,
make sure the ignitiion is off and to be safe the battery terminals are disconnected.
My limited experience is that you can dry an ECU and it will be OK. if the car ran after the dunking no water has got in.
Its my understanding that computer restorers who fix them after fires etc, just clean them in distilled water and let them dry thoroughly. I would then maybe spray it with no residue electronic cleaner .
The biggest problem will be the impurities or salt in the water causing corrosion. this also aplies to all your connectors that got wet. They all should be stripped and cleaned.

Thanks Philip, some good tips there. It's coincidentally going in for it's 10,000k service tomorrow - great timing - so I am going to get them to give it the once over!!

Welcome to the Underwater Driving Club.....
If it helps my central locking unit took a dunking. Upened it up and cleaned it and presto no more hazard lights all the time. The gunk in the water shorted out a few connections. Luckily my ECU didn't get wet.
