Have you used it yet?

Is the brake against the drum or on the other side of the gearbox? Was thinking about synthetic cable on it?

I think that the drum would be toohot for
synthetic cable.
I have only seen s/cable used
best on overhead winches, where the cable can
stay cooler


Yes I have used it a few times
1st time to winch DOWN a track (Was hooked up in the wheel ruts)

Yep, bought one of these off e-bay for that priice.

Sour note is that I'm still waiting for it after 4 weeks . Bloody courier companies are totally useless these days, they told me they 'lost' it during transit, found it again and lost it once agin, now they found it. Bloody hell, I'll be of retirement age when I get it the way things are going :x :x :x

Hopefully, get it fitted before Christmas.

Brake is in the drum. No problem for synthetic rope unless you're lowering out. Most people only ever winch in under power, so the brake doesn't operate and the drum doesn't heat up. If you do need to lower out under power frequently, then you need an 8274, Premier or Hydraulic winch.

Unless winching downhill a lot synthetic rope works fine.

However, ropes aint ropes, some have a lower temp point than others.

The trick is to lower in stages.... Its a recovery, not a race.....

Lower 1,2,3 stop 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.... repeat....

This keeps the drum cool enough to avoid melting decent rope.

I've run synthetic on the last 2 winches with no worries and would never run wire again, its too damn dangerous, even when used correctly the hazards outweight the cost difference.

BTW: Repco winches are excellent and work fine! 9500lb is more than enough. Dont keep adding weight to the front when it wont be required.

8) i bought a repco winch, and have ordered a tjm winch cradle to fit to my tjm bar.
been waiting almost two months for the cradle to arrive
seems the supplier to tjm is at fault
the latest advice is 16 of december
