RANGIE ENGINE CUT OUT???

G'day all.

I have a prob with the rangie ops: .
It goes fine on the straights and at idle, however when I go around corners or get on a side lean or bump around in the bush too much, the engine (a 3.5 v8 with twin carbies and Crane ignition) will cut out  . There is no warning and it is instant but then starts up again once I am level again (if I am still moving. Just stalls if I am not).
I have checked for loose wires ect but have found sfa that could be the cause.

Has anyone got any ideas on what it may be? .

thanx lots joe .

I would say its in the igniton somewhere, i had a similar prob with my electronic dizzy, it would drive then when i stopped it wouldnt re start, turned out to be a broken wire in the dizzy that leads to the coil.

this could be simply the fuel level in the float bowls....

speaking of ignition....
ive had a car that the coil would work faultlessly in the horizontal position
but nothing in the vertical position.......

as has been said above....look for any wires that are simply just hanging
which will move and sway with the cars movements.....
check also igniton lead from coil to dizzy.....

The wire that goes to the coil also goes to the fuel pump.

A while ago, I found this wire (to the pump) was shorting out on the gearbox crossmember.
This then stops the ignition which stops the vehicle which then burns the coil lead which then makes smoke in the cab which then makes me ring for a tow home which then makes me in the bad books.

Thank you all.

I have been in and under the RR all day looking at all the stuff mentioned but to no avail .

Have ruled out float levals by stripping and measuring (the carbies ) all ok.

As for loose wires yes I did find sum. Fixed, but prob still persists. I have traced the loom all under the dash as well and found a red / white wire that had melted onto some others. fixed that by renewing all threadbare wires and you guessed it...prob still persists  .

Now if I put car in reverse it will stall as soon as I take up clutch pressure, however it will go just fine in 1st until I hit a bumpy bit or go around corners. Sometimes I can play with the revs by pushing the hand brake up and down 8O .

HEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!

What is the fuel tank level and is there any water in your tank?

hmmm...

clutch....handbrake......gearstick in reverse....
i would be looking around the gearbox and under the
centre console for some dodgy wiring.....
and also around the pedal box....

check all the wiring and any earth points around the top of the gearbox...
which is where the handbrake is.....they all seem to point to this area....

Awsome!

I found it it was the other wire that goes from the coil to the starter motor white/purple wire 8O .

It caused all the symptoms I told you about. It had cracked insulation and was arching out on the earth strap at the back of the engine .

Wife now happy as she can go to shops  and she will not be revoking my permit to breath oxygen .

So, thank you all very much for the top result. Its all good .
