Console Upgrade - Questions about Headunit and Shifter

    Hi all,

I just bought a bottom of the range Discovery 4, and would like to fit some of the high end parts from a HSE.

    I have a 2010 2.7TDV6. The Parts are from a 2013 3.0SDV6 HSE.

Id like to switch over the small screen head unit, over to the large touch screen on the more recent models.
Id also like to know if i can change the gear shifter from pre 2013 cars over to the gear knob/dial on the 2013+ models.

There is a plethora of parts available from the UK, and from the wreckers they are cheap, so im happy to buy any part needed, but Id like to get an accurate idea of which parts so I can get them all at once.

Below is a picture of what I want to switch out.

Am I lucky enough that they will just plug in? If not, do you have any solutions?

Thank you very much for any help.

    Not quite...

You can't fit the dial shifter for certain.

To fit the up-spec screen and controls requires changes (mainly additional) wiring be added as he base mode doesn't ave the MOST bus wiring or the same amplifier as the up-spec version..

So I can change Numbers 1, 2 and 3, but not 4, 5 and 6? (numbers from the labeled drawing on the right)

If i buy the up spec'd head unit, WITH the wiring from the car it came out of, i should be able to get it to work? is there anything else you can suggest to get it to go smoothly?

Also, y cant I change the gear stick to the dial? is it not just a case of needing what ever part goes between the gear box and the dial as well? or am i way off?

Dial is 8 speed, needs tiptronic paddles which the 2.7 transmission 6hp26 can not control.
    Can bus needs different signals.

Items 1,2,3 are all you could possibly change.

Allow extra for Amplifier and associated loom.. and be very careful - system changed around 2012/13 so a later model unit may be completely incompatible.

You'll also need the fibre optic link and finally an IID tool to tell the vehicle CCF that it's different.

Ok, so I have ditched the idea of the upsec'd screen, and now think that an aftermarket headunit will be better/easier.

I've heard that I'll likely need to modify the aircon vents for a bit more space behind there, and that a lot of headunits dont integrate with the steering controls and volume controls below the screen.

    Tombie,
I've seen you pop up in several threads about similar topics to this, did anyone else find a solution? Do you have a thread you could point me towards?

    Cheers

You won't get a decent integrated head unit in there..

Understand that the CanBus is integrated between the head unit and the rest of the vehicle controls..

You can do an upgrade to a factory level unit with the wiring, amps, MOST cabling etc but you can't get away from the factory control functions tied into the system.
