I have the marine isolator as well, it was it the defender when I brought it. It,s simple, has no electronics and you can run what ever size cable. Although I call it the IDIOT switch as this idiot has forgotten to unisolate every now and than, once flattening the start battery, no problem as I selected both batteries and jump started myself.

I couldn't see a problem with it on a td5. I have never needed to isolate both batteries to date so if the electronic need constant power there should not be a problem.

If my next landy does not have an isolator than I would go for an electronic one. I would consider TRAXIDE, a few of the lads here have installed them and they seem to be doing the job.

I have the marine isolator in my EFI Rangie. The biggest risk to engine electronics is switching transients (voltage spikes) caused usually by the coil of a solenoid. Electronic battery systems have filters to eliminate the transients (at least the good ones). The marine switch does not have this problem because it is a manual switch. The biggest problem that I have found is remembering to isolate the starting battery before the fridge has run both flat. This is not a problem with the electronic systems because this is done automatically.

switch as well....if the main battery dies or goes flat because someone forgot
to turn lights off....a simple turn of the switch will join the two batteries together....
eliminating the need for jumper leads.....too easy me thinks.....</span>

Hi Zook, I’ve had so many requests for battery switches I now have some in stock.

I’ve just got to get my finger out and load pics and pricing onto my site, along with some simple info and a diagram for fitting them with either the SC40 or SC80.

i would like to have another small battery fitted only for trips to remove
from the vehicle and run lighting away from the car......a small 17ah battery...
a bit bigger than a house alarm battery....

a second SC40 should be just perfect for this application should it not....?</span>
