    Engine Oil leak from bellhousing

    Hi all,
What I thought was a sump gasket leak is likely a rear main seal.
If I can get my snake camera to work will be inspecting.
I gather the only 2 things it can be are the rear main seal or the back top of the sump? It is engine oil so rules out the gearbox seal.
Is there any easy way of confirming either? Not looking forward to renmoving the gearbox again if it is a rear main.

Craig it is very likrly to be the sump gasket. The section as across the back of the sump is very poorly designed for sealing... You can take out the wading plug and the timing olug and can see the rear gasket area quite easily eith a torch by shining it through one hole and looking through the other.
If you are going to replace the sump gasket use a genuine one!!

So hoping that is what it is, bore scope is working so going out shortly to check, had to take son to soccer sign up first.
Interesting someone posted recently about washer in rear of gasket being thicker than the inbuilt washer for the bolts. Will be looking at this carefully if it is the sump gasket.
    Cheers

Big sigh of relief was only the gasket. Back Drivers side seemed to be the place leaking into the bell housing.

Having said that having to pull the box out again would have been a great excuse to justify buying an ATB and fitting to the transfer case.

You don't need to pull the box out... just the transfer case off so what is the hold up???😈

$$$$$ Just cant justify it only working casual, in case it goes pear shaped. Work stops as soon as holidays, sick cover etc stops.
So over making final 2 for permanent jobs and not final 1. Over a dozen jobs making final 2, but at least I am working. Have been offered a few but they are all residential.
Oh well 1 Powerball and 3 ATBs for mine and 3 for the sons D2
Seriously thinking about doing something different.
