Of course Landcruisers and Patrols can do over 180kph...

You just have to find a high enough cliff....
I've been putting my mind to unusual stress in this regard ..

The gearing doesn't change, nor does the govenor ... at 4500 RPM

Ergo ... say 100kph at about 3000 rpm ......... that gives a max possible speed of about 150 kph at 4500 rpm .........

There is always a party pooper amongst the mix to spoil the fun and bring reason to the exaggerated discussion - I was going to add that a fender or a discovery will only get above 160kph if being towed by a L series Freelander but I guess Roscos quote makes it irrelevant - however the freelander is doing 2700 rpm at 100kph which means it will do 166 at readline or 185 on the rev limiter.

    Merry Christmas everyone

It also tows the 1500 kg caravan effortlessly. Thats useful!

Top speed? who cares. Beyond 110 klm/hr you are looking at losing your licence, in QLD anyways.
Even if you drag race, torque is the figure you want to increase.

Yep, and it makes 120kmh cruising feel effortless, but dont it bugger your fuel consumption, 450ks from last tank.

Funnily enough, mine has remained about the same, 11Ltrs / 100 klms.
can get 9.8 on a trip to the coast. (at 110 - 120 klms / hr). Whoops 120? ops: . Thas why the cruise control will help me!

PS I took the roof rack off and came back from 12.4 Ltrs / 100 klms.

The torque almost go's without saying,,,,,,,, it is fantastic to get heavy lumps going ,,,,,POI (mind if you are drag racing then the HP will get you over at the top end) but back to the original point.

Can any of you guys that actually have the chipped TD5 tell me if the increase in Torque and Horse Power is reflected in the top speed. in theory it should.
My TD5 has had its ecu chipped and I then towed my van for a 100 odd k's felt better , then drove for about 30 mins in the rain without the trailer felt good , then broke down in Mackay .
Two belt pulleys and the gearbox have been changed under warranty . now it feels swifter(just) up to 140kmh and then eventually gets to about 160kmh, but the improvement is not great :? , infact I am so unimpressed that I am thinking that the dealer has flashed it back to standard and the improvement is only from the gearbox and pulley change.

This is why I ask the question.... Top speed is easier to compare over the internet than 0 to 60 times which would indicate clearly the increased torque. we all hold our feet flat more or less alike. We press the button on a stop watch quite differently i have found. 8)
However if everyone wants to quote their 0 to 100 times I might even get an indication.
I know I could just get the computer plugged in and checked,, but the nearset one is 830km's away and much of the road is a bit wet now. 8O

How about old 4 speed Carbied V8 Rangies? How fast have any of you had one of them?

Last night i had mine doing an indicated 165ish, before I ran out of road. I might have been able to go much faster, the engine has a bit of a performance cam and was only doing 4500rpm, and it revs to 6500rpm before it valve bounces...

I wonder what it could do on a longer straight?

Be buggered on any corners though, especially with soft springs and no sway bars...

And this was done on a deserted stretch of back road mind you...I am all about public safety.
