    Is this a problem???

    Just when I thought I understaood all the oil leaks another one appears. The other day replaced the front brake pads on the disco. An easy task.
    Anyway after driving it yesterday found there was a heap of diff type oil leaking out from the end of the axle. I had a look and the rubber dust cap thingy had come adrrift, (probably because i had let the rim sit on it when puting the wheel back on)
    Anyway checked the rave manual and found the only place the oil could have come from is the swivel pin. Replacing it is not a problem nor is pushing the dust pad thing back on. But there are supposed to be some seals separating the bearings from the swivel oil.
    I Remembered a post about a similar problem but can't remember when or when I saw it.( no i can't search like the experts)
    Found one from SClarke about oil fed front bearings in his defender.
    I assume ( should never do that that though) the seals have gone or the previous owner did some sort of modification.

    Any suggestions,aside from pulling the thing to bits.
    I am guessing if it was sealed up before the dust cap thingy came offf it should be ok.

    Just when i thought I knew how most things computor worked, I have discovered why I couldn't search i was looking at the search thingy on the left, just had a play around and used the search thingy uptop, and found all the info i wanted,
    My own answers to my questions,
    no it is not a problem, the rubber hub seal wears out, if it is old,
    the bearings like oil,
    some like one shot others prefer oil
    use ep 80/90 gear oil, fill up the swivel filler hole to the top about 330 ml of oil.
    thats about all.

    if I have let out anything please let me know,

    Mission accomplished, it was that hard. pushed the cap back on, unscrewed the filler and the easy bit, used an old castrol gearoil bottle,left over from the pajero, aah the things we keep, that had measurements on it ( the one with the filler nozzle on it), put 300 ml of oil upended the bottle and trickled it into the hole, till it filled(only took 200ml) test drove it and it is fine.
    Some blokes spoke about a 'tom thumb' pump/filler, I am guessing you use that with the wheel on the vehicle , its easier to take it off.
    Got the car all ready for todays xmas on the beach and now a southerly has blown up looks like rain so the beach is off ,the dogs stay dry.
