I think it's a load of crap honestly, every time there's a problem stealers bring out the ol' water in the fuel BS.I recon they do it so it's covered by insurance.

Seems to be pitting causes to the nozzles under the pressure.. and the pumps - depending on how much water don't like the lack of lubrication either.

I tend to agree with this.
When mine had an apparent water issue, the assessor watched them like a hawk. Ended up being the ECU.
So now I have the old injectors and pump,,, all in excellent condition.

I'm not expert by a long shot, so just wondering here. Obviously, getting water in cylinders doesn't end well, but how many injectors themselves actually fail because of water? Wouldn't it just blow straight through them into the cylinders?

Sorry for the late reply. Td5 injectors are pretty rugged judging by the very few we have had to replace over the years. Never had any worn out, a few with broken springs, a few with open circuited coils, and 1 whole set that was under performing after an engine overheat and a new head fitted. All in all they are very reliable. Had a few run on petrol😅and some with water and mud in the fuel tanks but still they soldier on. The CRD stuff however is a lot more intolerant although not as bad as some would make out. My biggest complaint with CRD engines is the possible engine destruction when an injector doesn't close off for whatever reason and just keeps streaming diesel in at rail pressure until the piston melts... impossible to happen with td5 etc.
