The thought did occur, Mario. Yes, it was a complete unit, and yes the fault must lie inside the door somehow. It's just a little bemusing that everything works fine until I join up the pieces. And it's not like it is just sticking. It stops dead, in the same position each time. The only difference between the old one and the 'new' one is that the old one would go from completely closed ( when I put it back in ) to fully open, and stop on the way back up. This one won't do that even.

To think, people believe the Chinese are good at making puzzles....

Leave the scissor with glass in the door. Unplug the motor. Grab a 12v battery and two wires. See if you can drive it fully up and down. If you still can't get satisfactory results at least you know it is the door/scissor and not the computer.

If you do get satisfactory up and down results with the battery then you may have to check the window control circuit board for dry solder joints. A dry joint from my experience means the window winder action is completely dead. The window controller is situated under the front passenger dash. The hardest part is getting the unit out. Dry joints are easy to spot and re-solder.

OK, so the window stops in the same place. So, it has a different scissor and motor, so it must be one of the tracks or the window channel in the top of the door, but all these move freely when done by hand. Oh well, I'll take everything out. Great.

Try leaving all the screw points slightly loose ie scissor to door, glass mount to scissor, and see if the little bit of flexibility gives the system scope to do some self adjustment around any point of resistance.

Watch the square plastic guides in the scissor to see if they are rotating a little and consequently putting a corner point into the guide track. If you're handy try replacing the squares with wheels.

Ok, I went out again to try. It transpires that the bottom rail opt the window, the bit that the squares slide in, was catching on the window motor. I guess the door must have become bent slightly, which is weird, as nobody uses that side ( SWMBO point blank refuses to get in! ).

workingonit, your idea of hotwiring it did the trick. It forced the motor to push the window down past the obstruction, and when I went to wind it back up it caught again, but the ECU obviously didn't cut the power, and the motor kept pushing, causing the channel to bend a bit, making the problem obvious.

So, it will be an easy fix. It's surprising just how little clearance there is, something to watch.
