Does anyone know if its possible to replace the valve stem seals in a TD5 without removing the head? I've seen examples on the web on petrol engines using compressed air and even rope in the cylinder, but nothing with diesels. I have what appears to be a leaking seal(s) on cylinder #4. Oil in the cylinder and compression test is comparable to the other cylinders.
I was thinking that if I put the piston at tdc and then add compressed air through the glow hole, then it would be sufficient to hold the valve in place. Should this work in a TD5?
Obviously if it all goes wrong, I'll be taking the head off to retrieve the valve and then can reco the whole head the normal way.
