    1984 110 Front Diff Enquiry

    Good evening all,

I am currently rebuilding much of my 1984 110 V8. I have been posting many threads recently. Thank you all again for your help

I have been trying to pinpoint the cause of play in my drivetrain (thank you Bearman for your reply in another thread). My front diff has a lot of play (when compared to other 110's in the family) and makes grumble sounds when reversing up hills. It has done 530,000 km. I was wondering what diffs centres are interchangeable with mine? I see a lot of rover diff centres advertised for very cheap, but i'm not sure what diffs are suitable.

    Thank you,

    Edward

Any range rover classic except for soft dash, disco1 pre update should also be 10 spline, can use either front or rear diff centre. Unless yours has been changed to 24 spline axles, then you can use disco1 24 spline

    1984 110 Front Diff Enquiry

I'm pretty sure Defenders were 10 spline front up to about '94 too.
The play is most likely the cross pin worn in the hemisphere (mine had a couple of mm play and then sheared the pin), so make sure what you get as a replacement doesn't have the same issue.

Buy a trutrac, and upgrade to 23 spline and oil fed drive flanges. Have the diff lapped at the same time.

Thanks rar110. That would be nice, but i'm on a budget. A replacement diff centre will be enough to get me out of trouble.

I am running oil fed bearings at the moment but with standard flanges. I simply silicone the lip of the hub cap to the flange.
