As long as it doesn't leak it should get you out of trouble until you can replace it![]()
Hi there guys.
Well I have cracked my 300tdi drain plug on the side of the road in Katherine
The thread seems to be the same as 14mm course thread (2). So I've found a hardened steel bolt that I'm going to hacksaw with a nut threaded down on it. Questions are will there be an issue using hardened steel as opposed to the brass like heating and cooling expand/shrink properties? I have a copper crush washer to suit the new bolt. Plus with the nut on it where I can cut to would make the bolt a few mm longer. Can anyone see any problems with that so far???

The biggest issue was the dam hacksaw idea. Burnt through spare 3 blades not even 1/3 through bolt so put the old bolt in drain hole hand tight and topped up fluid so I could start it and plug in inverter to run grinder. In now with Teflon tape and new crush washer and seems to be holding so far........
