    Faulty steering angle sensor

Just though I'd mention that the diagnostics said that it wasn't the compressor casuing my suspension problems, but a faulty Steering Angle Sensor.

What it is and why it dropped the suspension and turned of the Terrain Response is beyond me. :? :?

Be great half way across the Simpson desert.
you will have to take a laptop, Rovacom light, and a Veery extensive parts kit.
And I thought 38As dropping their back airbags on the sandhills was bad.

As it's just a sensor, I need to find out if I can take it out of the loop if necessary.

I've found out via the UK forum that the Steering Angle sensor is an integral part of the Traction Control system in that knowledge of the steering angle is necessary for the TR to determine best action in a given circumstance.

I've also found out that loose wiring at the CAN bus (fancy new name for wiring harness) can give a false fault reading.

I think that when I go in to have the SAS replaced, I'll get the wiring checked and properly secured.

I feel a little frustrated that I can't be sure that the problem will be fixed the first time. Again, I'm brought back to the idea that the tech's are not as well trained by LR as they should be.

theres been a few reports of steering sensor failures if that makes you feel a tad better, we've already replaced a few on Disco 3's. It sits right on your steering column and as you said relays info back regarding the angle of the steering wheel.

And yes, the SAS kills most of the car when it goes down. I'd be asking your service center if they know of any problems with faulty steering angle sensors on Disco 3's  (but you didnt hear it from me), if their switched on they'd know about it

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>I'm brought back to the idea that the tech's are not as well trained by LR as they should be.[/b][/quote] in defence though the diagnostic system is the worst Ive ever seen. Ive tried to use it myself to track a simple problem (faulty front ABS sensor), its all over the place and sometimes is way off the mark anyway. Theyd be better with a system that just said "car good" or "car broke" rather then trying to tell you where the fault is.

Yeah, from what I understand from the UK forum, unlike the previous diagnostic system, you more or less have to know what question to ask the D3 in order to find the fault. A bit like dealing with a teenager really!!

you more or less need to know what the problem is yourself and tell the system for a printout to back you up.

Anyway let us know how you go with it, I'm interested to find out if that solves your problems.
