Re: Radio Interference

I've tried everything to get rid of the radio interference in my disco.
Tried new head unit, separate earth to battery/chassis, filters in both the battery and ignition feeds, numerous antenna, suppressors on everything I can think of (fans, alternator etc). I've even tried earthing the bonnet.
Is much worse on AM radio (yes there are a few of us out there that still listen) but is much, much worse when the A/C condensor fans cut in.
Is there something I'm missing or is there a magical fix?
There is no magical fix - but are you expecting to get AM as quiet as FM ? - you won't. I don't know what the antenna setup is on the Disco, but ensure it has a good earth right at the antenna. Try instead of just fitting suppressors fitting "lead through" capacitors right at the interfering device, and if the earth lead is of any length, on it as well. Sometimes multiple earth links on bolted on panels as well as the bonnet will help. You might try to find a local radio installation expert, someone who is used to installing communications equipment. And lastly, a lot of AM/FM radios have lousy AM sections on the basis that not many use AM. Of course, there are large parts of Australia where it is about all you can get, although admittedly not many people live in these areas.
