    Power steering box leaking from big nut on front

    Hi all

    the powersteering box I got leaks like a sieve from the big nut on the front of it.

    does anyone know if it is a simple case of tightening it to stop it leaking

    I haven't done one for nearly 30 years.
    My old RRC had a 3 bolt box, that I changed to a later 4 bolt box(which is the same as your Disco) during the time I had it.
    The 4 bolt box I got had the same leak.

    There's a seal under the top cover as I remember it.

    Don't just tighten the large bolt, as it's a locknut for the tensioner screw.

    I can't recall every step(as it was a long time ago) but I remember you need to remove the the central nut, then undo the 4 bolts that secure the cover.
    Lift the cover and replace the seals.

    Apparently the shaft wears too, i think from worn bearings? If this happens the new seal will fail anyway. Might be worth looking at it more closely if you dismantle it. Also the D2a steering boxes are different to the D2 ones. Not sure what disco you've got.
