Question Td5 acoustic cover on without the turbo heat shield

Anyone run with their acoustic cover on the td5 minus the turbo heat shield?

I have recently blanked off the coolant spigot on the oil cooler and would like to monitor it for leaks so leaving off the heat shield will make it a little easier.

Just concerned the heat from the turbo could damage the acoustic cover.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Yes, I currently have both of them off but I would like to use the noise killer lead lined cover I usually run on top of the factory acoustic cover.

We do a fair bit of touring and I like the 'lack of' engine noise this produces in the cabin.

Might just try it on and see what clearance is there and then check the cover for temp after a run.
Btw it's a Defender so lacking a bit in the finesse dept.

IMO those with removed heat shield or engine cover(which is not just acoustic it's thermal-acoustic) can develop more electrical problems cos the radiant heat of the head and turbo can ''tenderise'' wirings, connectors the fusebox and sensors...actually i've had two friends who had to replace the fusebox and both were running without the shields, the MAF sensor can be affected as well.

    Lead-lined noise-killer cover

    Hi Paul,

I am intrigued by your mention of this.
Can you pls give some more details about the lead-lined noise-absorbing / blocking shield that you mention?
Is it a home-made device, does it sit on top of the factory acoustic cover, etc, etc.

    Cheers,
    AndrewMilne

I have the acoustic cover on without the shield and no signs of any damage after months like that.

Hi Andrew, the noise killer engine blanket is from the UK.
They do noise reduction kits for vehicles, obviously Defenders get a high priority

Yes, it just sits on top of the existing cover.
