Handbrake

It seems my handbrake button is stuck. I'm coming up for a rego chech in a couple of weeks and need to rectify this problem. Can I fix it? Or is it a matter of replacing the handbrake lever?
If so how in heavens name do you get the lever off, the Rave CD is not very helpful here.
D1, for those of you who are unaware.

Thanks Sean.

oops...i thought you meant....err....the lever....yes!!

unclip the base of the boot.....and lift it up to expose the the cable....
remove the clip that holds the pin in then with the handbrake released....remove the pin and the cable comes out....

then you just unscrew the base plate of the lever assembly.....
and remove the whole lot in one go......
but im not sure if the centre console needs to come out for this step...

i cant remember..... ops:

Thanks for the replies guys, I've undone the cable gotten to the point of removing the lever, the trouble is the base looks to be welded on, not bolted :?
I'll try a little oil down there, it's stuck a couple of times in the past, but usually a few knocks on the lever saw it come out again and operate trouble free for quite a while.

sometimes when you force the button it bends the rod which runs to the ratchet...
inside the handle....
or the ratchet assembly bends....

it may just need adjusting.......

once you have it out you will be able to see how it works and where the problem lies....
