Ray, get someone to put in a dual battery controller, suggest http://www.traxide.com.au/trax1sc40_2.html (AULRO Member discount https://www.aulro.com/afvb/) and then run a cable from the controller to a anderson plug and connect the deep cycle battery up to that, easy.
then later on you can put in the solar panels etc https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ more $$$$$
what do u plan on running off the battery and how long for without recharge ??

Hi hiline, what exactly are you trying to do. Do you have a second battery in in the caravan or do you just want to connect power to the van from your vehicle’s battery. :?:

my car only has 1 battery
so i'm told i need a hot wire to run and charge the van battery while i'm driving.............
Done. Now I know what you want.
You will need to run both a positive and a negative cable of at least 10mm2 from you front battery, through a dual battery charge controller ( and naturally I would recommend mine ) and a circuit breaker at the front, to the caravan and another circuit breaker at the battery in the caravan.
To allow you to easily connect and disconnect the van a you need it, use 50 amp Anderson Plugs ( part N# SB50 ).
Running the cable through the vehicle is a BIG job but there is no reason you can’t do it yourself.
There is a lot more to it than this but this will give you an idea and if you want more info just ask and I’ll go through each step and explain why it should be done a given way as you need it.
