Well the original idea was to enable people with roof-racks to walk over their bonnet without it buckling underneath them (for example if placing a canoe or something on the roof).

I don't have any yet, but I plan to get some.

Protects the bonnet from chips and scratches, allows you to lean on it without fear of accidentally buckling, and (if done right) can look good 8)

    I don`t have one yet.

But they might be good, if you want to walk on your bonnet.
particularly if you have a TD5. Cause the bonnet isn`t as strong as on the older LR...

2 days ago I went on the Autobahn and had the wind against me. Suddenly I noticed that the bonnet was shacking. Not the whole bonnet, only the middle part... I think the sheet is really thin.

    Or I was too fast

I've got them because of the rooftop tent. You need to get onto the bonnet wing to unfold the tent forwards towards the bullbar.

Apart from that - a great place to stick a cup of tea and a thermos when you stop for lunch

Therefore I take the protectors on the wings...

I have the protectors on the wings and they are great but even with a protector on the bonnet I would still be wary of standing on the bonnet.

I think with the protectors that should be no problem.
But you don`t have to jump from your roof onto the bonnet.

But last year I had to stand on my bonnet to fix my pop top. And I don`t have the protector. It was no problem. But you have to be very careful...
And better you do that before lunch

It would want to be a really heavy bonnet protector to protect a defender bonnet, they are made of the flimsiest alloy - they are really only bling factor.
