Not normally possible but someone might have siliconed together the two items instead of letting the oils drip out of the gap between the two adjacent seals.
Does anyone know if it is possible / likely for fluid to leak from the transfer case into the gearbox?
Every time I check fluid levels the transfer case is low and the gearbox is overfull.
Also both oils look a bit like they have mixed gearbox oil is red when new (redline MT) and is kinda browny now. The transfer case oil (epx90) is brown ish to start with and looks like brown with mud mixed in?
any ideas what is going on?

As above , for that to be possible, not only would the two half's have to be siliconed up , but gearbox output and transfer input seals would both have to be u/s , oh and don't run epx 90 in the transfer case it will ( if it hasn't already) burn out the centre diff spider gears / shims
It's hard for me to believe that the gearbox would "suck" oil in if it's a leak also it's higher pressure in it than in the transfer case... for LT230 75W90 oil is recommended
