Well you have answered your own question in your post, thats all the changes :wink: i think the ECU was changed in the later models 01 on.

The D2 update also has much better door seals. They don't leak water like the earlier D2.
Stereo controls are on the steering wheel.
Much much better sound proofing
Much firmer seats
Obviously the CDL which you mentioned


There were a few Disco's made in 01 & 02 which did not even have the internals for the CDL in the transfer case so with these you cannot even add CDL on later. Important to watch for as the Disco is useless off-road without CDL.

I have no problem in my '02 Disco without CDL, except when compared to Discos with the CDL and Defenders. Without it and relying on TC only, it is still better than many other (read Jap Crap) 4x4s. I would not call it "useless", but perhaps label it "less capable" :wink:

And adding a few internals to the transfer case, or exchanging transfer case will allow fitment of a CDL to these models. Priced around $1000 last time I asked. Haven't got around to it, as I mainly use the V8i for play days.

No, I would definatley say useless and even dangerous.

It depends where you drive it. On road and sand it is probably ok, but as soon as you get it on rutted steep tracks, it gets cross axeled and will not go anywhere. And really a Cruiser, Patrol or Prado will easily beat it. And with no CDL it is actually dangerous to back down a steep hill, the way the TC and ABS work leaves you with no control and is the reason LR put the CDL back in.
On many (anything more than easy) LROCV trips, you are only allowed to go if you have CDL.

Have you driven one? As I said, really haven't had any problems with it, and Yalwal is basically my backyard, ruts and hills goes OK. Yes, I drive it differently to my other vehicles, but I don't find I get stuck any more than in the others, and less then some of my friends with other makes. You learn to live with it, and drive accordingly. Cars aren't dangerous, but drivers are :wink:

Try a stalled failed ascent on a greasy hill wihout CDL. :wink:
