Steering groan in Defender at carpark speeds

    Gday all
My names Darren and I just purchased my first Defender, a 2000 xtreme.
When the vehicle is still or moving at low speed in a car park a groaning sound is heard in the front of the vehicle (only whlist the steering wheel is being turned). Is this a typical Defender trait or is something amiss?

Hmmm... I just bought mine (2000 TD5) and it does the same thing....especially when cold in the morning. I've checked all obvious things like fluids and belts - all look good.

It's a defender for crying out loud :?
Mine's a '99 model and groans at everything
    Is normal, i think (or hope :!: :!: )
Seriously though, also does it at slow speed (carparks, etc)

You'd probably get groaning if the steering wheel at full lock and not moving much or fast. This'd be the power steering trying to **** itself.

Or it could be the belt whining, or the tensioner bearing, or if the sound comes from one side and the steering is at full lock a CV is going. If it's a CV then the noise will get progressively worse until the CV goes.

They all do it, don't worry to much, mine does especially at low speed and turning hard. It is probablly the pump working. If it is too loud get it looked at.

I have been told that it is just a vibration in the hoses, nothing to worry about. Mine does the same thing, always has and has not caused any other issues

hehe... it's just one of these "Landy things" that I've heard about before getting into them.

Hose vibration - interesting! Wouldn't argue it - quite a plausible reason amongst many....

Hahahahaha, the company Falcoon does it too, so it's not realy a Landy thing, I always though it was the " Taxi " factor that ford built in
