    94 3.9 engine noise

    After driving for 15 mins this morning I noticed a ticking sound from under the hood when i stopped at the stop sign.So when I got homeI lifted the hood and couldnt hear anything on idle so I gave the engine a rev ,still nothing.Until it idled right down and then there was this horrible ticking cross with a knocking noise.
    I did this a couple of times and then it disappeared then came back,so I thought I would play it safe and visit my local LR dealer.
    Got the guy there to have a listen and when I saw his face when he heard it I thought ****, this not good.
    He never heard anything like it before ,saying its not continues noise.
    So he got his doctors stethascope out found the noise to be coming from the injector rack(continues noise,tap-tap-tap).

    In the end he still wasnt sure,which led me to here because Im not paying $88 a hr for him to jerk around.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Edit* I had a look in the forum for simaliar posts ,but nothing like what i got

    Have you overheated the engine recently?
    The symptoms you describe are pretty well exactly those of a loose sleeve. Where they hit is into the head which is very near the injector rail.
    Of course we all hope it could be something less expensive.
    3.9 s are the worst for this problem.

    I change the oil every 5000kms and the filters every 10000kms.
    I found the problem to be a sticky lifter.
    I used a lifter free addative and a engine flush with new oil, it worked a treat.

    Bullant good the hear u solve and fixed yr problem...

    I also have a sticky / noisy lifter in my RRC 93 3.9L been there since i rebuilt the engine (bad batch of lifters) mate has same problem. anyway mine is only noisy when the engine has been sitting off, say overnight. the lifter is very loud and as oil lubes it up it get quieter... what brand of anti lifter noisy product did you use?
