    Tools for touring

I may be a little paranoid But when I go away on a trip I usually carry a lot of tools with me, Not only hand tools But power tools, a welder and a decent selection of electrical connectors and odds and sods.
Along with the various spare odds and ends I also carry this adds up to a fair bit of extra weight But I am reluctant to trim down what I carry because I just know that "Murphy's Law" would kick in if I did.

What is in your tool kits when you are touring?

I carry 'generic' tools like an 3/8 drive metric socket set, 1/4 drive socket set with allen and torx bits, 6-32mm ring open enders, then my tool box (blue plastic with pliers/hammer/punch/screwdrivers/tie wire/cable ties/electrical connectors/shifter/file etc. Extra stuff: 2.5mm welding rods, welding lens (not whole helmet), tin of selection of nuts, bolts & washers, selection of smaller specialist tools that I have needed on the vehicle (generally these live in the tool box anyway) like 400mm long 1/4 drive extension.
When maintaining my vehicle/camper I try to use the tools I carry in the vehicle, if I need to get a tool from my workshop, then it is added to the car tools.
Interestingly I have never really needed any of the specialist tools on my own vehicle, but used a couple of times on others.
Welding rods, used only once to repair trailer, and got us home.

I also carry a container with various sized tech screws in it that have come in very handy on occasions, Also silastic, areldite and metal "putty" comes in quite useful as well.

I used to carry a big tool kit....now it’s just the minimum

    Common spanners
    Pliers, side cutters, vice grips
    Hammer
    Stanley knife
Small container of odds and ends
    Selection of screw drivers
    Three shifters

    That’s about it.......

I'm a motorcyclist so I'm used to packing light. Metal putty is a must. I generally take my smaller 1/4 inch socket set as it's usually more handy. If I need the 1/2 inch something big is wrong Tools for touring
