Rim and Tyre Width
I have noticed 1999 - 2000 Discoverys have a different rim to 2001 models onwards.
1999 - 2000 8J x 16 I think
2001 models onwards 7J x 16 I think
My question is can I put 255 width tyres on my 2001 Discovery?

BFG and Cooper 255/86/16's can legally be fitted to 6.5" rims.
Best check with the manufacturer/distributor depending on the tyre.

umm, I don't think yours are 6.5" as you said they are 7J x 16
What I was trying to say is that those tyres I listed above can be legally fitted to a rim of 6.5" width, eg it could have 6.5J X 16 on the rim.
These particular tyres can be used on rims from 6.5" to 8" width (6.5JX16 to 8.0Jx16). The first number is the width in inches across the bead/seat area of the rim, and the second number is the diameter of the rim in inches.
Just checked the BFG chart, and 255/70's can fit the same rim sizes.
