accidentally found a bit of a tip
I have two RAM screen suction cup mounts.
1. holds the 7" tablet in the middle of the dash. Stays pretty much put 99% of the time. But every now and then it does fall off.
2. holds the phone charger/holder. This thing is a cobbled up BFC(brand) magnetic/Qi charger pad, stuck onto another RAM mount.
1. is larger/heavier than 2.
2. is mounted between dash pod(D1) and driver A pillar. Regularly falls off, mainly on warm to hot days .. I guess due to the curvature of the windscreen at that location(ie. compared to the flatter part in the centre)
That's about the only7 reason I can think of as to why the lighter smaller(smaller arm too) on the phone holder regularly falls off, where the centre mounted mount doesn't.
Because they're both RAM, I have swapped them around, but makes no difference.
The other week or two, I cleaned the inside of the windscreen, and took care to clean the suction cups nicely too. No lint .. clean as .. you'd think it'd stick better, but the phone posi mount fell off a few times every day!
Cleanliness seemed to make the issue worse. Up till I cleaned the window, I can't remember it falling off for over a month(most likely 2 or 3). I know it wasn't due to heat, or direct sun, or weight, or quality of the mount.
The Tip!
I tried to stick the mount on the screen again for about the 10th time in a few days, and this last time I forgot to release the suction creating tab.
Putting the mount onto the screen tho stuck it hard, much harder than I ever remember it too. The RAM mount has a slight concertina type rubber suction area, and when vacuum inside the cup is really good, there is barely a mm or two of flex.
By forgetting to release the suction tab, I heard a small air bubble pop sound. I suspect that by keeping the suction tab in the locked position, had expelled all air from the gap between cup and screen, and then I released the suction tab and locked it again.
Much stronger hold, and nigh on impossible to remove without releasing the suction cup, even trying to peel it a little.
So give that a shot too. Depending on what suction mount type you have, if possible leave it locked(vacuum position) place it on screen, release suction mechanism and reapply it.
After cleaning screen and suction cup, we had a bit of a cool spell here in Melb, and even taking this into account, the mount still fell off regularly throughout the day.
Heat doesn't seem to be a factor, cleanliness doesn't either(up to a point).
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
