I'm running OME's - after the originals were replaced by the original owner at around 70,000. The vehicle now has 169,000km on it and the shocks are due for a change. The sooner the better..... 8O
It looks like after around 80000 km the original shockies on the 110 are totally shot. The thing's crashing and bouncing all over the road and I'm starting to think it's a bit dangerous. It seems that the concensus is that you can't go too far wrong with Bilsteins so I'll be chasing a set of those.
What sort of life are other people getting from their original Defender shocks? And what sort of life would you expect from the Billies?

My OEs are screwed after 30000ks, 2 cape trips and 1 simpson crossing.![]()

03 Defender Xtreme, now reduced by 30%.
a master of invisibleness.
It all depends on what type of work you do with them. I would think that 80k for a car that did mostly road and a little offroad would be a very good run. They die all the time at that age in roadcars but people don't notice!
Gees... if mine make it to 50 I'll be very happy![]()
2005 Defender 110
You did very well for 80k on the OE shocks from what I can gather.
I have new bilsteins on the rear becasue after 80 one of mine lost it. By the look of it I think it got knocked by something when off road. The front two are fine.
I have never driven a Defender on its original shocks but I'm told Bilsteins transform the handling.
I've been getting around about 60k out of a set. Unfortunately my latest set didn't even make 40k, thanks to the Finke! 8O
I've got 95k on the originals. Of course, it didnt go off road until about 75k, and there is a little extra roll going around long corners, but all seems ok at the moment.

No idea on how long they last but I have done 45K since I bought my rig and the LTR's are still going strong.
Bilsteins are definitely the go. i have had mine in for over 130,000kms. They are dropped out regularly and checked, always perfect. The importers at Heasmans reackon 300K is not unheard of in a 4WD shock. Amazing but true, mine have done numerous French Line trips, sure they get hot enough to sizzle spit but they keep going. I made up some basic steel rock guards out of some 1" flat bar and tiny angle and secured to the lower tube with hose clamps. The lower tubes are abit exposed at the rear. Last year one of the rock guards got squashed flat by a projectile, the shock was fine.
