    Oops...wrong fuel!

OK call me stupid but in a rush to get away last weekend I managed to put 3.5L of unleaded in my half full tank. I have a 127L tank on the TD5 defender. Faced with dropping out 60L of fuel at 8pm at night with 300km still to travel I made the choice to full her right up and push on.

After a bit of a top up I worked out that I was driving on diesel diluted with 2.5% of unleaded. To me this is not high but I know this could cause damage to the injectors. Can someone put me out of my pain and give me an idication of any damage done?

For those interested the results I got were no increase in power, no better fuel economy, infact it was down, and it seemd to be blowing a touch of smoke for the first time ever (or mabye I am now paraniod!).

go with the paranoid thought! that little amount of ULP shouldnt
    worrie the engine or injectors.
all it should do will increase the combustion chamber temps.

dont think theres anything to freak out about.

after all injector cleaner for ULP cars is basically diesal and kero?

2.5% unleaded in your diesel will make no detectable difference to anything. Probably less than the difference between batches of diesel.

Hi dages, that little bit of petrol should be no problem at all on the motor, it’s the fuel pump that would be the first to suffer if there was a problem and when you consider that in some Northern European countries, they run as much as 25% petrol mix in their diesel during winter.

So all you would get is, as discowhite posted, a very slight increase in piston temperature and no likely harm.

    Cheers

My old subaru 1800 used to diesel quite happily on 100% unleaded when it was a bit warm. Unfortunately the engine would run the wrong way. - 4 reverse gears and 1 forward gear and hard to switch off :? .
