Thread: LED brake light issues

FYI LEDs are not generally brighter than normal bulbs. They are also generally directional unlike a std bulb.

Are yours cheapies? There is no substitute for quality as they say. Any marks on the bulb?

What year RRC? sounds like a later model, not earlier model.

I have a D1.
Have replaced almost all globes to LED now, took a while to do the indicators, but eventually got all the 'correct bits'.
Had to get an LED flasher unit form the UK, but could only find one to fit the Defender.
The shape is different to the D1 flasher, but it's still 4 post and I just made up a set of wires to connect the flasher to the fuse box area, then zip tied the flasher to secure it.
Has a trimpot to adjust it's sensitivity for the trailer indicator . .. works brilliantly now(pun intended).

Reverse lights and rear fog lights all changed too .. no worries.
But no way I can get the LEDs to work.

if I fit just the one LED tail/brake light, it works fine, but fitting the second tail/brake LED, the brake lights don't work(don't come on).
Tails work fine.

So I just gave up trying(for a while).
Still look for possible options to get them to work, but not feeling positive about that tho.
I guess the brake light system just needs the correct amount of load for it to work, and I don't want to fit resistors to the LEDs(partially defeats the purpose).
My main reason is(I had indicators blowing on the rear for a short time .. must have just been dodgy std globes) .. the rear lights are a total PITA to remove refit. My hand doesn't fit into the access hatch AND allow me to turn the globe holder to remove it.

If I have any success with any particular globe type, I'll post back.
