D3 Jacks and how good are they.

Hi folks, I’ve seen comments on a number of overseas sites that the jack provided with the D3 is not much chop.

They seem to be cheap and nasty but is the jack that comes with Australian D3s different to the overseas versions, mainly from the USA.

Anybody had any experience with their D3 jacks and how did they find them, were they adequate or would it pay to look for something a little more robust.

    Cheers

I found it to be OK, but it's hard on the arms.

You almost get it to it's max extension before the tyre is off the ground!

It's also a little hard to use, like most scissor jacks, as the winding handle isn't designed properly so it's hardish to turn and falls out of the ring all the time.

Jacking took longer than the rest of the tyre changing put together!

    Drivesafe,

I picked up a bottle jack from a local company called Jack Specialists which will be quicker and more flexible to use on the D3 particularly off-road.

The model is a Masada MH7 7000kg bottle jack $120.

Closed height 200mm, lift 120 + 70mm extension screw. Max height 390mm. Weights 5.5kg without handle.

Thanks folks, it’s not that I think the jack supplied with the D3 isn’t any good, it’s just that the D3 is the wife's and as such, she does a fair bit of long distant driving by herself and if she does have a flat I would like to know that the jack will work.

The last site I saw the jack problem on was a USA site but I can’t remember where the other post was but hopefully we have a better jack.

I think I will still look into PCH’s suggestion.

    Cheers and thanks again.
