Defender TD5 Clutch Master Cylinder Questions - Urgent

A couple of questions about the clutch master cylinder in a Defender TD5.
First are these rebuildable with a kit? I pulled it out today as there is a nice leak and was sucking air when bleeding after replacing the slave cylinder. Must have been leaking for a while and nice clean brake fluid made the leak worse as quite a bit of fluid build up aroung the supports. Getting it out was a job on its own, what astrange set up.
It does not appear that the spring and piston assembly inside the master cylinder housing can be removed like most cylinders. Are these a sealed unit? The leak appears to from around the piston as usual.
Does any one have the appropriate section on a Rave CD they can email me? I have lost mine and only have a TD5 Disco one and the clutch master cylinder set up is different. Will get another copy soon.
My email is elfmel@bigpond.com if any one can help.
Need to get this done asap as bike and car of the road. Starting to wear thin this week.

(From my understanding of what rebuildable is...) They're rebuildable. About $15 worth of seals should do it, unless the reservoir is scallopped.... then you either need to resleeve or replace.

When you're putting the cylinder back in, don't forget that the measurement between the bottom of the pedal and floor should be 140mm. It makes it look a bit depressed compared to the brake pedal, but ensures that the piston is pushing in line with the cylinder, thereby stopping and scalloping/gouging that can prematurely end the life of your master cylinder.

And I agree, it is a rather wierd master cylinder setup.....

If you can do it yourself, a new master cylinder is only around $65.00 anyway... a much better option than a re-build IMHO.

Thanks guy's. Got one from Britparts, WA, in Welshpool. Will be here tommorow morning $55 plus freight. Not bad I thought. Plus I am going to send him the old one and have the sleeve done in stainless steel. Nice to talk to someone who knows what you are talking about.

140mm from bottom of pedal to floor (WITHOUT mat), that's what MR Automotive told me when I replaced mine about 5000kms ago, and that's what the RAVE CD says (I just checked). 8)

    Master cylinder

    Hi guys,
I have replaced my master cylinder on my 97 defender recently with a PBR one and only paid about $34 from Bursons auto parts. I imagine that they have not changed them from 1997 to current models but i could be wrong  PBR part #to suit 1997 defender is P6575. You must set them up as per the manual with the right height from the floor or they will stuff and leak trust me ops:

    Cheers Gaz
