Series 3 Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve

Must have been the corrugations as I've lost the diaphragm from my engine. The photo's show the valve body attached to the carby base & the other pic where it feeds from the oil filler ( crankcase). Luckily the spring & cover plate were found on the manifold, but I'm missing the clip & Diaphragm. The only indication was a slight oily smell when driving but it goes just fine& not lost any oil.
    Some questions for the guru's.
Do I need this arrangement? would blocking it off affect anything ? ( given the same engine in a series 2 does not have this).
Is this arrangement on 70's Fords or Holdens? - seems a local manufacture so I spent an hour at Pick a part & it seems mid 70's vehicles are all gone to heaven & I can't find anything online.

    Thanks, David

Parts are available from the usual Landrover parts suppliers or valves from other vehicles can be fitted. You can block it off, but this will leave the crankcase unventilated, and deposits of gunk inside the engine, how bad depends on your driving and climate. If you do block it off, you ideally need to go to the pre-PCV oil filler and cap with breather and the rocker cover breather.
