    Discovery Rims for a 98 Freelander?

    Just wondering has anyone, done a 2" lift on their Freelander?

    If so is the Ironman suspension a good option and I want to fit larger treads say 16" with 225/75-16, would they fit on a Disco rim, which year is best and what modifications are better?

    :roll:

    Also is the Disco rims the same Freelander?

    Which tyres are the best?

    Re the penultimate question, the bolt PCD on the Freebie is much smaller than than the Disco 1 - dunno about the Dsico 2. I suspect the bolt diameter will be smaller and that the offset will be wrong.

    There's 16" & 17" rims available for the Freelander but they're alloys (I'm guessing you want steels).

    I just went & quickly measured up a Freelander & DiscoII.
    Between studs:
    Freelander = 68mm approx
    DiscoII = 70mm approx

    DiscoII rims aren't even going to bolt up even before worrying about offsets :? .

    Are you sure the ironman kit is for a freeloader ? with ifs you probably wont get a 2" lift.

    There is a kit for the freelander, i think it will give a 1.5" according another site I visited. Thanks for everyone's help, i'll look into the other sizes of rims. Cheers.

    Haven't done it but the Freelander will take a 2" lift - can be done via the springs or via a 2" spacer kit that goes on top of the spring towers.

    Disco 1 and Freelander rims are completely different in offset and stud pattern. Those size tyres will go on Frrelander 16" rims - standard tyres on 16" rims are is 215/65. The problem will be first gear. Without a low range, first gear will now be too high - might get away with it around town or light offroad but any offroad hills or sand will now mean first gear is too high.

    "Discovery Rims for a 98 Freelander?"

    Hmmm... Sounds like a fair swap to me.

    There's quite a few guys in the UK running with the 2" spacers but that's as far as you can take it without mods to the drive train. Most of the guys do this to get the clearance rather than to fit larger rubber which (as Gary mentioned) would play havock if you need low... As it is, the Freebee doesn't have low-ratio, increasing the tyre diam will just make it worse.
