Yep, I won a set of blue xenon bulbs and replaced my standard H4 bulbs in my Crown. Can't say I'm a great fan. They a very white and on a dark road are good but when you get into suburbia the white/blue light disappears under street lighting and it makes the road harder to see when compared to the standard halogen. I even put one of the older halogen back in for comparison and the reflected light from the yellow beam is easier to see under street lighting. On a dark road they are a very white light and take a little to get used to.

Spot lights with higher wattage may be a completely different situation. Can't comment there.

There are two things going on here. Xenon Lights, and HID lights as per the attachment.

Is the query about HID lamps?

yep, about this HID kit, the xenon bit is from the website name. Specifically at $700 seems cheap for a HID set up, if I'm reading it right???

Be carefull here. There are xenon bulbs that are conventional filament bulbs out there that are filled with xenon gas. This is pretty much just marketing, as they are basically just conventional bulbs and don't offer any advantage over normal highoutput bulbs.

However real xenon lights use very very high voltage to excite the xenon gas itself, and this is a very different thing. They are very bright, and use very low power. Also, they don't have a filament, so most makers claim they last for the life of the car. The only downsides to them are that they take longer to start up than a conventional bulb... and the cost

I can't comment for these people, but for oem setups they are usually very good. Drivesafe had a thread a little while back saying he wasn't happy with them in his D3 though

OK. Have not used HID lights, looked but not sure I want to spent the $$$.

I currently have fitted a pair of IPF X51 Xenon H4 lamps.

Rating is 60/80 watt with the equivalent of 150/190 watt light output.
These have a bright white light and seem to be very good in both town and country.

At $140.00 pair (lamps only) they appear to be worth the money.

With my 130 watt driving lights I have exceptional night vision. (for an old guy ).

G'day guys, Ive had HID high and low beam installed on my bike - BMW K1200LT. For me this was a safety issue and certainly made riding of a night much better. Yes they are expensive but I depend on how you look at the cost. We quiver about the cost of tyres and exhausts etc but this one I think is up to each in what they want as an improvement. The cost was certainly high but on my bike its only one high and one low. Their is a guy by the name of Frank Tidswell who has a business in Northern NSW I think, it's XenonOZ. I bought my lights through him after getting a recommendation from a company in Findland. I found his knowledge very helpful. Be carefull of unknown brands The set I use has Phillips Globes and Hela Ballast. Should I sell the bike I can revert back to standart in about half an hour and then put the unit either into another car or bike. Simply upgrade to the glode stye required. He also buys back the globes basically as a trade the the type requried for your need.

Hope this helps. I may be able to fnd my installation photos and his number if anyone wants it.

    Jake
