Is there meant to be a cover over the fuel filter?

Is there meant to be a cover of some sort over the primary in-line fuel filter down in front of the rear driver's-side wheel on my Defender? Mine doesn't have one, but I notice that it's pretty exposed, and that there is a female cam-lock arrangement just behind the filter itself. It appears new inside - i.e. whatever was cam-locked into it has suddenly gone, and the mud and dirt hasn't been on it's internal surfaces yet suggeesting that I've probably lost something very recently.

    Cheers

Omaroo -- there is meant to be a shield protecting the fuel filter. :?

Will try and dig out a pic of one somewhere.

IMHO -- those filters are not in the most sensible place, although I have not had a problem with mine yet getting hit by anything.
