TDV6 HP fuel pump pulley problem (not Land Rover)

So here we are just over 2 years later....
SWMBO started the Territory at the weekend and it started making a horrible noise. Took off the HP fuel pump belt cover and the idler fell out ! It was rubbing against the cover but held in place enough that the pump was running.

Problem is that the bolt thread is damaged and broken off so I'm guessing an engine out job to fix it !!!

Tilt trayed to the dealer and waiting for them to find time to investigate, if they won't come to the party, the problem is most likely due to their previous poor workmanship, then I'll have to get it moved to an independent where my son works. The owner of the independent has already given me the 'heads up' to contact the VACC.

So belt fell off after they fitted a replacement belt at 160K, no idea of what damage was caused but it did suffer from a fuel leak and had to be returned to them several times to fix it.
Next the side 'cheek' on the camshaft pulley driving the HP fuel pump came off and got jammed behind the pulley.
Now the Idler pulley has come loose and fallen off.

Thread damaged from the initial problem ? Loctite not used ? Bolt over tightened ? I'll never know but await the verdict.

I suspect it was over tightened, thread is in the head do definitely motor out for that fix as doubt there is anymore room back there than a disco has.
Also that bolt looks a little short on length.

Heaps of room compared to a disco, from memory Ford allow 45mins labour for belt change

But probably not enough room to drill out remainder of bolt, helicoil & re-fit cover then the easy bit fitting belt & idler pully.

Looking at the thread , it's either been cross threaded or over tightened. Yes, as mentioned, it also looks a bit short , maybe a bit still in the head, also as mentioned, there should be enough room on the territory for a good operator to use a right angled drill , then helicoil without removal of head / motor as it sits a lot further forward on the territory ( Ford not bothered with mass centralisation on this model, which at least allows for easy belt changes )

First I have to get them to actually look at the problem....
If you look at the end of the bolt it's clearly broken off after working loose. Problem will be getting the broken piece out hence the engine may have to get taken out.
No room to work on it from above (only just managed to undo the clips & remove the cover), probably better from underneath but still think it will come out.

Issue is whether they will cover all or part of the costs. The Service Manager admitted they'd had no other HP belt problems except with ours but the problems were initiated by them when the belt was fitted at 160,000Km and came off......

Until they 'find time' to look at the problem we're one car down. I have a feeling I'll be moving it to the Indy and wearing the cost because I cannot afford the labour at the dealers.

Only another year and I'll be moving this car on and SWMBO gets mine, problem now after three Territory's (5 years in each) is what to replace it with ?
I need a good tow capacity (say 2.5tonne), 7 seats would be nice, don't need 4WD and really don't want to invest more than about $45-50K.

Maybe there'll be some more options in a year's time.

They ****ed it so shouldn't be any cost to you.

Phoned the dealer and it made it into the workshop yesterday.
Currently has the transmission removed.

The person I spoke to wasn't in a position to discuss 'costs' so it'll be interesting to see what happens when I'm told it's ready.

If it isn't free then the letter gets sent to Ford, The VACC and the Dealer Principal.

Each time we've been inconvenienced. SWMBO has currently borrowed a car to do the school run (yes, I know there are a load of Land Rovers here but they are mine !). To be fair she could have used the Defender and the kids would have loved it.

I dont think that was very wise - I never get work done without a good idea of what the final cost will be - saves a lot of arguments when an unexpected high invoice arrives - you are then at a disadvantage as they have your car and there is little you can do about it.

As this is a non standard repair i think it fair that they wont know the cost or they provide a cost that is unlikely to be correct.
