I would say that the manual option was for the later D2 cable system.... the option I used can be taken from early RRC or D1 (as long as it had a LT230)

You are right, it was the later d2 system that it uses.

    Hi Nathan
I made my own manual linkage setup, cost less than $50 using socket set extensions and unijoints.
    Got the design from Disco2.com
I will find an article with pics and bump it up for you to see.

    CDL Locks

I am interested in doing the same to my '02 model. How much difference does it actually make off road? Is it worth it?

Huge difference and definately worth doing. I wouldn't even consider owning an S2 Disco without a centre difflock.

Makes a huge difference!! on gravel roads it feel loose and unpredictable and in the wet stuff its useless and same goes for sand

I put a CDL on my DII a while back, mine didnt have the transfer case provisions for CDL so i had it modified for 900, then i got myself an AMV CDL kit, i have had a few problems with mine, i dont really like the quality of it either, i am going to get rid of it and use something like the one on here

    http://www.discoveryauto.com.au/upgrade/ma...20difflock3.htm

fully manual, no buttons or switches, no eletric motors to go bad, seems to be the most practical and reliable option - considering thats what land rover used in the later models you'd think its the best option around.

Anyone interested in buying a slightly used (4-5 months old - only spent about a month on the car all up) AMV CDL kit? all in good condition??

ohh and i totally agree on it being a worthwhile upgrade!! transforms the car totally when offroading, no more sideways action in the mud waiting for TC to kick in! soooo much better for beach driving TC barely needs to kick in, the TC is great, does a good job but it can be a little late kicking in when you need more then 1 wheel driving the car!!

    CDL

I will be fitting CDL to my Disco shorlty. I carried out bit of research and and will probably get Bruce Davis at Annangrove to fit it (Davis Landy Performance) This style is a mechanical link from the high low range selector and works when put in low range it operates centre diff lock.

I think it is between $300 to $400 fitted.
