Defender 2014 - gearbox and clutch failures

Hi everyone. We have experienced major failures of both the clutch and gearbox in our 2014 Defender 110. It is just over a year out of warranty and only done 85,000km with a great service history. We're interested in hearing from anyone with similar issues and how you may have resolved this with LandRover. This is not the performance we were expecting and believe that most people would not have bought a vehicle worth over $50K if they knew it would have to have the drive chain replaced so early in its history. We anticipated it having a much higher threshold for part failure. We have been reliably informed there are known faults with both these parts (clutch spring design failures, for example). Interested in your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

Unfortunately this is a very common occurrence at these km. I replace many clutches and transmission interconnecting shafts in these some at less than 80k... even the little lightweight 90 isn't immune to these failures...

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Clutch is a piece of sh#t. I think LR is on their 4th version. I had a custom exedy clutch installed at almost $4k but never had to worry about it again.

The early gearboxes had issues, yours being a 2014 is a bit out of the norm. The boxes are actually quiet solid and i dont think the failure rate would be any more or less than any other brand vehicle.

    Did u purchase it new?
    Who serviced your vehcile?
Was the gearbox oil ever changed?

If your dealership serviced it during the warranty period then id be approaching them and asking for help with dealing with LR, a good will job. I would argue that 85k kms isnt reasonable and matching the vehicles description when purchased. Good luck with it

Edit: JC is right about the output shaft. While the box is out put a ashcroft version in. Do a search and you'll understand what im talking about ( assuming you don't)

Clutch and interconnection was well worn on our old 2011 90 Puma at only 65,000km. It's a bad setup or inadequate quality parts. I think Ashcroft sell some uprated replacement components which may be worth considering.

What he said, but 70K onwards, and I call it a adapter shaft rather than a interconnecting shaft
