SupporterTwice now I've had a problem starting my 2004 Disco TD5 Auto. Both times its being after a short run, and a stop of 10 to 15 minutes.
The engine turns over normally, but shows no sign of starting. The last time I followed the fuel priming technique of ignition on and off as per the book, and after about 5 minutes I got it going again. As the problem is so intermitant I expect the problem will be hard to isolate unless someone knows the exact cause. It's only done about 30000 Km, and doesn't get a hard time.
Any thoughts??

Does your fuel pump sound really noisey?
Could be a fuel filter issue.

I'm with Disconut.
The 2004 TD5 should have the wiring loom issue sorted, but you never know.
When you turn the ignition key, immediately prior to engaging the starter motor, you should be able to hear the fuel pump priming and making a noise. If you cannot, I would think that there may be a problem with the pump (no 12v or the pump is dying).
If it is really noisy all the time, it is probably the pump about to die. Mine is doing the same at the moment. New fuel pump from LRA is more than $1200!!
As it is a 2004, I would be getting it to the dealer to sort under warranty.

						SupporterThanks for the comments.
The Disco is one of the runout models so hopefully most of the bugs have been sorted.
The problem's with starting were several months apart, and it runs very nicely.
I can only hear the fuel pump with the bonnet up, If thats where it is?
It's still got 1 years warranty, but I like to have some idear of the likely cause so I can't be given to much bs.
My guess is a problem with the fuel pump allowing fuel to drain back, hence loosing prime, but I've no idear how likely that is.
Thanks
Greg
Greg,
Fuel pump is in the tank at the rear of the vehicle.
Should only be making a humming sound.
