IMHO a ten minute run would be worse than noo run, take out for a drive to normal operation temps, maybe once a month

Over winter my Defender has been sitting in the garage unused. At what intervals should I get in and start it and give it say a ten minute run? What is the maximum time in months should it be let sit without starting. I do give the batteries a regular charge. Do gaskets or seals dry out if the vehicle is not used on a fairly regular basis?

Not a defender but my sons left his car parked up for 22 weeks, I take it for a decent run once a fortnight and give it a wash.
Mine sometimes goes months without being started.
I do charge the battery occasionally, in fact I head round all the Land Rovers and charge the batteries every couple of months.
The Defender recently sat idle for about 6 months while I got round to doing the cambelt, the wife then used it for several days on the school run, now it's back in the garage.
Difficult to confirm whether it's really doing it any harm but I've been doing this for about 18 years.......
It would depend on the garage it's stored in to some extent.
My Series III fitted with a C240 Isuzu motor sits outside & may go a month or so between drives.

Short runs kill Internal Combustion Engines . Better not starting it at all unless your going to take it for a good Half Hour drive.
A bloke over the back fence must be too old to ride, he starts his 750/4 every couple of days & lets it idle for 10 mins & a bit of a rev before shutting it down . Drives me nuts that he's wrecking a good old classic bike , I should tell him I'll take it for a spin.
Thanks for the replies. Its idleness has been weighing on my mind especially due to its non-use during winter. I will now make an effort to give it a good run regularly.
