I'm very sad to hear of our dissapointment with your car. All manufacturers have problems from time to time. It's sad that you've been hit.

On other forums this type of post is not unknown. Guven that it is a first post my troll alarm does sound.. [/list]

this problem has been around with the buick engine since day 1 if my memory serves me right..

i was told about it when i had my 96 v8 disco and met a couple of people that had experienced it.

from what i have heard and seen on the subject it affects those engines that are rarely worked.... and by worked i dont mean have the guts reved out of them...

A fellow LROC member has just had a new engine fitted into his pre-2000 TD5 - the original cracked the block. Apparently, this isn't uncommon for early TD5 engines.

My Disco 2 V8 has done a whole 25,000km now and it has not had a problem with the valves.
It's had a problem with just about everything else but not the valves.

Now if only I can find some wood to touch......quickly.

Any hint of that tappet tick in the trouble list?
Noisy tappets arenot common on low mileage engines.
    causes
inadequate preload on tappets-cause putting composite gasket in without milling head 35thou.
    worn camshaft
worn rocker arm sockets for the pushrods
inadequate oil changes sludging up tappets

Maybe not tappets but slipped sleeve
    maybe just injector noise

Yeah mate I had a sticky lifter,no one at LR could tell me what it was or find the cause.
I found a LR fan working in a servo and put some lifter free addtive in and then told me to use a engine flush at the next oil change.
Now I have no sticky lifter.

    Hope this helps
