take the top off,, doors off, bonnet off,
fill tyres with helium??![]()
So, based on info from the net a 54 model 86" series 1 weighs 1,350 odd Kg. Can anyone conform this is correct?
Next question - is that with full fuel tank, spare tyre, etc?
Next question - what is easily removable to lighten it a bit?
How much would doors, spare, battery all weigh?
Ideally would like to strip it down to 1200Kg for the trailer ride it needs to take.

Was thinking of taking the top off too, but not sure how much work that is and if I can fit all of that in the back of the Hilux either, but certainly a possibility.

Why not just get a bigger trailer fitted with electric trailer brakes? My old Freelander managed towing a 88 no issues.

Because I have a trailer it will fit in already without having to spend any money, but it's legal capacity is 1200Kg. No point hiring a car trailer for a vehicle this small when I have something that is close to being suitable. Tow vehicle isn't an issue. Anyway, even the servo car trailers have a legal max weight of 1200Kg too as they weigh 800Kg to start with, so I'd still be over weight even with one of those. At least my trailer only weighs 400Kg so the trip up will be much easier, but only has an ATM of 1600Kg

Yeah, maybe I'm being paranoid considering all the overweight car trailers and caravans getting around without issue, I'm just trying to do the right thing. I'm pretty sure if I take off the doors, battery, spare tyre, tailgate, windscreen and top off it (these will all fit in the tow vehicle without issue) then I should be close to right on. The front and rear tailgate will also be gone off the trailer so will pick up a few Kg's there too.
If I get pulled up an weighed I can always jack up the series and pull the wheels off it too....![]()

I assume you are trying to keep the weight of trailer and car to under 2 tonne so electric trailer brakes and brakeway systems are not required.
Most 1200kg trailers will carry much more but with the 2 tonne rule in place, most are specified only to 1200kg ie trailer weight at 800kg and load at 1200kg. Before the brake rules came in a trailer I used to use was specified to carry 2 tonne but when the new brakeaway rules came in capacity of the same trailer was reduced to 1200kg.
So as to your question - as already covered - no fuel, remove battery, doors, spare wheel, roof etc if it is there, windscreen - some weight savings but not a lot. If you are really pushed - when the 86 is on the trailer strap the front down then jack up the rear and remove the rear wheels and lower the back down with the drums sitting on some plywood sheet and strap down - if more weight saving do the same with the front.
Good luck
