    Advice on Salisbury Axles

I recently put a detroit locker in the rear of my old Series 3 Stage 1. Yes it has a salisbury and I seek advice on replacing the axles with Maxis. Will the Rover 24 Spline Salisbury axles stand up to a locker or have people had failures by not changing them.
For the record I have found the Detroit exceptional with a few little quirks on road but nothing like I have read about.

    Thanks in advance

    Salisbury axle

I have seen the Salisbury take a lot of punishment with and without Lockers. In my opinion in most slippery 4wd situations the load would be less- not more with a locker added.
However if you want to put on bigger tyres and tackle rocky steep slopes, then you might need stronger axles.
My stage 1 took a lot of stick and had chains on a fair bit- no worries.

Over the last ten years I have been witness to several of these axles snaping. but as a rule the salisbury diff and axles are tough, age will be the only killer with regard to reliability.

i reckon you should upgrade axles to either maxis or jack macnamarra axles both of these are superior to standard now you have a locker

its mainly the axle flanges on the standard axles that give trouble well on the defenders mainly

Dont worry about changing the axles.

They cop heaps of abuse, they were made with about the best quality steel Land Rover ever used.

I've got one with a pretty big twist at the momemnt, but I will just change that for another 2md hand or even new at around $40.

PS - My stage 1 has lockers and Q78 swampers and I dont mind using the loud pedal if needed
