Thanks guys
Thanks guys
There's a South African outfit called Little Black Box who do monitoring of engines, including water level, and another called Madman who do the same thing.
I have an early Little Black Box that only monitors water level and it saved my bacon when a hose burst.
For you guys in Australia, they will be really cheap on the exchange rates.
A lot of the blokes on here run the MadMan EMS. There is a local distributor.
Has anyone set up the MadMan to use probes on the header tank instead? How are those probes fitted and sealed on the side of the tank? They look like machine screws and both their heads and the nuts look to be on the outer side...

Erased cos it was about D2
Not sure about TD5 but in the V8 you only have to drop 100mls or so and the alarm goes off using the top radiator hose Engine saver. Very sensitive. Even let's you know if there is air in the cooling system by coming on on startup and shutting off with a rev. Why is td5 set up different? Cheers
Not techincally Defender specific, but I had an alluminium header tank made for my D1 TDi back in the day. I had a couple of NPT bungs put in the side of it and used a Capacitive style liquid level sensor in it.
Alternatively, a float style switch could be used.
