    TD5 expansion tank, is there a way to fit a low coolant alarm

    Defender expansion tank....is there a cap that can be used for low coolant alarm??

    While this is not a direct answer to your question.
    My Defender that is basically the same as yours has 2 screw in sensors in the bottom of the expansion tank when the level goes down no connectivity between the 2 and the alarms goes off.

    They just screw in with a spade connector on the outside.

    Low coolant alarm sensor on a Td5 usually fits into the bleed screw hole in the top radiator hose.

    I thought it was the head gasket going? Mine warning system worked perfectly.

    Yep have one of them to install.....just looking for ideas on expansion/header tank.

    I assume somebody has drilled holes in the expansion tank...as I don’t see any additional holes in mine for sensors.

    The only problem of that setup is that as long as the engine is running the expansion tank will be empty way before that alarm goes off cos the pump keeps circulating the coolant even with empty tank

    Agreed.
    Best solution is to fit the sensor to the expansion tank because by the time the one in the bleed screw goes off the damage is most likely already done, With the sensor fitted to the expansion tank at least you will get some warning of impending doom.
    I have a redarc unit fitted to my D2a V8 which has the 2 holes drilled into the tank for the sensors and the alarm is quite loud and it also makes 3 beeps on startup just to let you know it is working.
