Is this a series?
Did you look at the casting of the diff centre in front. Might be there.
My rear diff has no obvious filler plug (unlike the front which is clear as day).
I did a quick google search and it looks like an early series diff pan like this

How do you fill the diff?

As 123Rover50 says. Series rear diffs have the filler on the right side of the diff nose casting, facing up, a brass plug.
The front diff has a filler on the pan at the front, and some front diffs have no filler plug on the nose, although some do, and it is just possible that one of these has been fitted to the rear, although I have never heard of this.

If your rear Series diff centre has been replaced with a Metric Diff then you wont have any filler hole .

I built up a rear diff for my Lightweight using the Metric D2 housing above,
I drilled & tapped the filler hole

Found it - thanks. It's a range rover 2 door, but based upon what I'm discovering, there's every possibility it's a bit of mongrel arrangement. I'll post a photo of the housing and would appreciate any advice on where it's from!

If that is the 77RRC, that is the normal arrangement as they are pre metric.
Ah for a Maxi . The diff is probably broached and Maxi axles fitted which are much stronger. Look at the end caps.
I think they all came with the strong axles.

If its got a Maxi-Drive they have to be the HD Maxi axles. He made them all and they are splined at the diff for the actuator.
They would have screw on hub caps.
Show us a pic of the wheel end of the side with the Maxi-Drive on it.
